FRIDAY, March 2nd Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration and Friday Night Liberty Event
Join the festivities and honor the late creator of many childhood classics such as the Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham. The annual Dr. Seuss birthday celebration is taking place this Friday at the University of California, San Diego campus. UCSD’s lovable icon, Theodor Seuss Geisel also known as Dr. Seuss, would have been 108 this year and the campus wants to make his party extra special. Starting at 11:50 a.m., a giant inflatable Cat in the Hat will mark the party destination at the foot of Geisel Library’s Liberty Walk. Free punch and cake will be served and entertainment provided by The Teeny Tiny Pit Orchestra will guarantee Dr. Seuss has a fantastic birthday remembrance. Original works of Dr. Seuss such as original drawings, photos, and memorabilia will be on display at the UC San Diego Mandeville Special Collections Library until March 9.
It’s Friday night at NTC Promenade Art & Culture District in Point Loma’s Liberty Station which means lots of art, dance, and culture to chalk up your Friday night with fun and entertainment. The free event called Friday Night Liberty hosts open artist studios, walk-through galleries, and live performances. This week, featured exhibits include “Make Your Mark” community painting project and Dance Place’s “Terpsichore: Icons of Dance” exhibit along with Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater performances. Experience the freedom to explore the different art cultures right in the heart of San Diego from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
SATURDAY, March 3rd Ocean Beach Kite Festival and Dumpstaphunk at Winston’s
Ready, Set, Fly! The 64th annual Ocean Beach Kiwanis Kite Festival is pleased to present its fun kite-flying event at the Ocean Beach Recreation Center for a day of cool activities such as a craft fair, great entertainment, and kite making and decorating. Starting at 9 a.m. with fun kite making workshops (with all supplies included), the event will also include lunch and punch. Amusement rides and kite judging will take place closer to 4 p.m. For more information about this rare festival, please visit the Kiwanis website. Event is free to the public.
Stay in Ocean Beach after the Kite Festival and listen to the funk band Dumpstaphunk in Ocean Beach’s number one bar Winston’s. The New Orleans native group has a very distinct sound that just can’t be replicated. This talented band will begin the show at 9:30 p.m. with a fantastic night of funk planned to heat up the OB music scene. Admission is $15-17 for a dynamite show—don’t miss your chance to see Dumpstaphunk up-close and personal.
SUNDAY, March 4th Presto! at Old Town’s Red Spade Theater and Yoga at the Museum

The famous Charles Arlington of Triple Espresso will show you a magic show like you’ve never seen before. Arlington’s show PRESTO! combines audience participation with comedy and never seen anywhere else magic tricks. Come see a mastermind magician at work with the 2 p.m. show of PRESTO!
