FRIDAY, September 2nd: Barona’s 41st Annual Powwow and Deluxe Blues Band at Patrick’s II
Explore the colorful history of San Diego’s Native American community this Friday at Barona’s 41st annual Powwow from 6 to 11 p.m. The Barona Baseball Field will be hosting the large event that will feature gourd dancing at 6 p.m., contests, prizes, Native American drummers and dancers, vendors, delicious food, and camping. The admission to experience this unique tribe and culture is free so don’t miss the opportunity to participate in an authentic powwow at Barona Resort and Casino in Lakeside.
If you feel like listening to some great music this Friday, Patrick’s II in downtown San Diego is definitely the spot for you. This Irish pub has been known for years as San Diego’s premier blues club in the downtown area and the comfortable, down-to-earth atmosphere will make you feel right at home. The 145th Street Deluxe Blues Band from San Diego will start their set at 9 p.m. and will keep you groovin’ until the wee hours of the morning. SATURDAY, September 3rd: Little Shop of Horrors Rock Musical and the Haunted San Diego Ghost Tour
Have you ever been to a rock musical? The Cygnet Theatre Company will be showing the eclectic musical called Little Shop of Horrors, a mixture between 1950’s sci-fi films and 1960’s rock, Motown, and doo-wop. The musical begins with a skid row floral assistant that finds a rare plant with a craving for fresh blood. See how the plot thickens in Little Shop of Horrors at the Cygnet Theatre located at 4040 Twiggs Street. Saturday musical show times will be 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
With Halloween right around the corner, why not get into the spooky spirit of Halloween with San Diego haunted ghost tours. San Diego is not only America’s Finest City but also the most haunted city of the west coast. Take the tour and learn a little about San Diego’s past, visit the most haunted sites, and explore a darker side of San Diego that you’ve never seen before. The 2-hour tours will be running at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. this Saturday. Each tour will begin in front of the Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel in Old Town.
SUNDAY, September 4th: SDAI’s Museum of the Living Artist and Ben Harper at the Del Mar Race Track
The San Diego Art Institute’s Museum of the Living Artist will be having its last showing of two very special artists’ works of art. Suzanne LaJoie and Susan Osborn will have their art featured from noon to 4 p.m. Check out their beautiful art pieces at the SDAI’s House of Charm location in Balboa Park. Admission: $3.
Ben Harper is the total package… The American singer-songwriter plays a mélange of soul, blues, reggae, and folk and pulls it off rather well. The 2011 Del Mar Race Track Summer Concert series will be hosting Ben Harper for the last concert of the series. This acoustic singer has an amazing voice and an undeniable talent when it comes to music. Concert is free with race track admission. The concert will begin right after the races have finished.
