San Diego is going to be nuts this weekend with all the fun and eclectic events planned from February 24 to February 26. Reopening galas, BBQ parties, an adult puppet show and even a kennel club dog show will grace San Diego with lovely activities, shows, and events in Balboa Park, La Jolla, and Del Mar. Discover some of San Diego’s specialized events this action-packed weekend:

FRIDAY, February 24: Heritage Day Parade and Festival & Adult Puppet Cabaret Show

In celebration of 21 years, the annual grassroots Heritage Day Festival and Parade will bring together all cultures for a day of heritage appreciation. Starting at 10 a.m., San Diego’s Lincoln High School Theatre will hold the festival complete with cultural foods, business networking and marketing, and all kinds of entertainment. Don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate your heritage complete with a parade and unique festival.

Can’t find anything interesting to do on a Friday night? You will fall in love with this adult puppet cabaret show at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. Animal Cracker Conspiracy will perform live puppet performances, libations with live music and entertainment proceeded by Heather Henson’s film Handmade Puppet Dreams Volume 3. From 7 to 11 p.m., you will be entertained in the most unique and original ways. The 18 and up show is for a more mature audience; tickets are $8-10.

SATURDAY, February 25: Old Fashioned BBQ Bash & San Diego Law Library’s Reopening Gala

Calling all barbeque lovers! The National Barbeque Association is hosting an Old Fashioned BBQ Bash at the Crowne Plaza Hotel! From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., come to the BBQ bash to enjoy the art of barbeque. The event will have a barbeque marketplace, “How to Q” presentations, barbeque sauce samplings, and book signings. Also, a People’s Choice Awards voting will be done by all attendees—cast your vote for the best pulled chicken in the competition. Do you love glitz and glam? Then you must be a part of the grand reopening gala for the San Diego Law Library. Beginning at 6 p.m. this Saturday, Mardi Gras King Rex will host a formal and elegant gala featuring casino and gaming tables, live entertainment, live music, extravagant art, gourmet food, caricature portrait artists, and a champagne toast. Prices to attend the classy reopening gala start at $95. Must dress to impress at this law library soiree.

SUNDAY, February 26: Kennel Club Dog Show & Allegra at Beaumont’s

How about an event for the man’s best friend? Silver Bay Kennel Club is coming to the Del Mar Fairgrounds for the original AKC All-Breeds Dog Show. The free dog show will hold dog agility competitions, special doggie vendors, and much more! Only show dogs are allowed at the show, no pets. See some gorgeous dogs from Silver Bay’s worldwide dog show from 8 to 3 this Sunday in the fairgrounds’ O’brien, Bing Crosby and Exhibit Halls.

Relax on Sunday with an evening performance at the always wonderful Beaumont’s restaurant in La Jolla. The San Diego local Allegra will play an acoustic folk pop concert starting at 9 p.m. Check out some fantastic local music, enjoy a soothing environment and indulge in mouth-watering cuisine. Beaumont’s is a fun end to any weekend!

What a fantastic line up of concerts, music festivals, Brazilian carnivals, and a special Gaslamp Quarter Mardi Gras celebration. Enjoy non-stop music and fun festivals this February weekend. Remember to save some energy for the Mardi Gras festival on Tuesday because you won’t want to miss it!

Friday, February 17th Blue Still in University Heights and the International Pop Overthrow Festival in North Park

Check out one of the best North Park music fests yet–the international pop overthrow festival at North Park’s neighborhood rock’n’roll joint called Eleven on El Cajon Boulevard. Starting at 6:30 p.m., get a chance to listen to San Diego’s local talents for just $10. The Eugene Edwards Band will play at 7:30 followed by Phil Vandermost & Telesound, Plane Without a Pilot, King Washington, Yoya, The New Kinetics, and Dave Rave. Don’t miss a great line-up and a fun North Park music festival! The International pop overthrow festival is the place to be this Friday.

If you love bluegrass music, then you have to see the funky Blue Still bluegrass band this Friday in University Heights. Blue Still will be performing at 7:30 p.m. at Across The Street on Park Boulevard. Listen to the local bluegrass band that’ll have you dancing all night long.

Saturday, February 18th Willovealot in Hillcrest and Downtown Ivy’s Carnival Brazil

A free jazz and soul band in Hillcrest? Sounds like a good time to me! Listen to the smooth grooves and soulful beats of Willovealot, a native San Diego band. Check out their website to see some live videos and hear their distinct sounds—Willovealot will be playing at Busalacchi’s A Modo Mio in Hillcrest at 7 p.m. Stop by for the free show and enjoy a soulful man with the passion for music.

Prepare yourselves for the wild and crazy San Diego-version of Brazil’s carnival! From 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., Gaslamp Quarter’s luxury nightclub Ivy will host the prestigious Carnival Brazil with samba showcases, capoeira Brazilian dance performances, and live entertainment by the Duo. Tickets for the out of control party are just $10—get yours while you still can!

Sunday, February 19th G. Love & Special Sauce at the House of Blues

Aah, music to my ears! The ever popular G. Love & Special Sauce are doing a special performance at San Diego’s House of Blues in the Gaslamp Quarter. Paired with Scott H. Biram, G. Love and Special Sauce will be rocking the house all night long! Doors open at 7 p.m. but the show will go on at 8:30 p.m. Get there early to get a good spot or just show up and listen to the great music right at 8:30. Tickets are selling for $25-$35—what a great deal for such a talented set of artists! Get yours tickets today at the House of Blues website.

Tuesday, February 21st Downtown San Diego’s Mardi Gras Celebration

Even though this event happens after the weekend is over, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share Mardi Gras with you—San Diego style of course! Come on down to the famous Gaslamp Quarter and get a little crazy for the Fat Tuesday event. Starting at 6 p.m. and going strong until midnight, Mardi Gras in San Diego will feature a colorful parade, five stages loaded with live entertainment acts, and 16 blocks of pure crazy fun! Tickets are only $20 in advance; otherwise, admission is $25 the day of Mardi Gras.
