These marshmallow bones are the perfect snack for any Halloween occasion. Your family and friends will go crazy for these easy-to-make treats. Serve with a cup of hot cocoa to create a more indulgent dessert or serve by themselves… they’re just that good!
INGREDIENTS
- ¾ cups of cold water
- 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
- ½ ounce or 1 Tablespoon of unflavored gelatin
- 1 ½ cups of granulated sugar
- ½ cup PLUS 2 Tablespoons of light corn syrup
- Confectioners’ Sugar (for dusting)
DIRECTIONS
1. Line two baking sheets with wax paper.
2. Combine ½ cup of cold water and the vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Sprinkle the gelatin over the mixture and let stand for about 5 minutes or until softened.
3. Boil the granulated sugar, corn syrup, and remaining ¼ cup of water in a small saucepan. Continue cooking and washing down the sides of the pan with a pastry brush until the mixture reaches 234 to 240 degrees F. Remove from heat.
4. Whisk gelatin mixture with a mixer on high speed for 30 seconds. As you use the mixer, pour the hot sugar mixture carefully down the side of the bowl in a slow, steady movement.
5. Whisk mixture for about 8 to 10 minutes or until the consistency is very fluffy and almost stiff.
6. Transfer the mix into a pastry bag fitted with a ½-inch round tip.
7. Form the bones on the wax paper by piping a figure 8 about 5 inches long to create a bone shape. Repeat. Let the bones stand for about 10 – 12 hours in a cool, dry place (uncovered).
8. Generously dust the bones with confectioners’ sugar, turning to coat. Shake off excess sugar and the bones are ready to serve!
Special thanks to Martha Stewart for this cute Halloween dessert.
